GapAid GapAid is a new charity addressing some of the issues related to the fast-growing gap year experience that is becoming a rite of passage for so many young people. Its aim is primarily to ensure the safety of Gappers and also empower them to be good citizens, aware of sensitive issues such as religious intolerance, poverty, environmental issues and promote respect for host cultures. The Charity was inspired by the death of 19 year old Georgia French who was traveling on her gap year with two friends on a bus in the Peruvian Andes. The bus crashed at 14,000 ft and Georgia and four others lost their lives - several others were seriously injured too. It became apparent that the driver had been traveling for many hours and the accident was in a remote location which meant help took hours to arrive and it was several days before the dead and injured could be recovered. This tragic waste of a beautiful daughter coupled with the experiences of the French family in dealing with both the shock and the practical issues in dealing with government agencies, insurance, medical details etc. inspired the French family to form GapAid both to promote safe travel and provide support and help. GapAid is urgently seeking funding to achieve its objectives. For every order from this website we will give Gapaid £1. Wear a Dragonfly Pin Further details are available on www.GapAid.org
